Why Having New Windows Installed is so Important and the Energy Saving Benefits it creates

by Thomas Hickey

If your heating and cooling bills seem way too high, it might have a lot to do with your old windows. You may not think that your windows could be costing you much, but even slightly inefficient windows can be a major source of energy loss in your home, possibly even the biggest.

The cost of replacing your old windows will be quickly recouped by saving you money on your heating and air conditioning costs. They also bring the value of your home up, all while looking and working better. Its surprising the effect a few new windows can have on a home. Even if your old windows are still in functioning condition, you might want to think about replacing them with new ones.

Older windows are often less efficient than newer ones, especially as new technological advances allow us to create a better seal and windows with a better insulation value. People in older homes are the worst off when it comes to losing heat through the windows. Old wooden frames that allow air to leak through, single pane windows with no insulation value, and other factors result in a lot of heat getting out when it’s cold and getting in during the summer months. You’d be amazed at how much money is leaking out through your windows.

Now, even if you dont own a home with those old fashioned wooden frames, it doesnt mean you arent losing energy. The aluminum and steel frames installed in the past few decades, even the double and triple paned ones, still are not close to as efficient as what has been developed recently. They may have a higher insulation factor than the old wood ones, but are still costing you money on your heating and cooling bill. There are much better windows on the market right now, that wont break your wallet.

Does that mean that you absolutely have to replace your old windows with new, more efficient ones? No ” but you should, and if you’re hoping to save some money and improve the look and value of your home, this is one of the first areas to look at. Find out how efficient your windows really are, and compare them to the ratings on newer ones. You’ll be amazed at how much you’re losing just because you still have those old windows. You could avoid having to crank up that air conditioning or furnace, or even replace them, if you can create a better home insulation envelope. Don’t let that happen anymore – install new ones and start saving, instead.

With todays window selection being so diverse, the technology being so much better, and the cost to heat and cool your home steadily on the rise, the choice is clear: Replace those old money grubbing windows with new high efficiency ones. Having new windows installed could be the solution youve been waiting for to save money.
